Since Christmas is exactly a month away, we at the Lodge thought we’d offer an idea about how you can celebrate an alternate Christmas vacation. Maybe you want to get out of the cities this winter, which usually have increased levels of pollution. Maybe you want to de-commercialize the season, and give up on buying and consuming gifts. Or maybe you simply what to get some much needed sunshine. Whatever your reason is, if you are looking for a different sort of Christmas, consider spending some time with us in Southern Utah.
We have several advantages here in the semi-desert of Utah during winter. The weather is generally warmer, the skies stay sunny, and the scenery is, as always, fantastic. The abundance of national and state parks provide lots of opportunities to play outdoors. If you are in the mood to hike, take a daytrip into the Waterpocket Fold. Or head farther-a-field, to Zion National Park. If you like the idea of playing in the snow, go snowmobiling or cross-country skiing in the national forests. (Check out this post detailing more of the ways to have fun in the snow.)
We at the Lodge are located in Wayne County, just outside of Torrey Utah and Capitol Reef, which is no coincidence. We can’t think of a better place to live at any time of the year, but Christmas time can be especially fun. The red rock receives a few, moderate dustings of snow each season, providing dramatic contrast. The sky stays blue and unclouded. And with easy access to Boulder Mountain, Fishlake National Forest, and, of course, Capitol Reef. We like to believe that there is something here for everyone, whether that be ice fishing, hiking, or just breathing the fresh air. So if you are looking for a good place to escape for the holidays, think about spending a few days exploring Capitol Reef while hanging out with us at The Lodge at Red River Ranch. We think it’ll make a great Christmas adventure.
