Fish Lake is one of Utah’s best sport fishing sites. The lake is located in Fishlake National Forest at an approximate elevation of 8,000 feet. Fish Lake is just five miles long and one mile across at its longest sections, but there is plenty of room for fun. It is a great place to spend a weekend. Fish Lake is only a few minutes away from the Lodge at Red River Ranch.

For the most excitement, and to catch the best fish, you should bring or rent a boat. Fish Lake is continuously stocked with splake and rainbow, brook, cutthroat, and brown trout. Almost every year some lucky fisherman catches a trophy fish over 25 lbs. Fish Lake has modern camping facilities, including RV hookups.

Fish Lake has a little brother, Johnson Valley Reservoir. Johnson is smaller and less developed than Fish Lake, but it is also routinely stocked with fish by the state. If you want a little more solitude, try Johnson Valley Reservoir.

It’s not just great fishing that attracts visitors to Fish Lake. The beautiful upper highland aspens of Fishlake National Forest have been named one of the forty “Wonders of America.” These trees light up every year in a brief, but stunning, display of fall colors. Take the scenic drive through the forest in summer or autumn.

The higher elevation is cooler, which comes as welcome change from the heat waves of the desert. There are many trails in Fishlake National Forest. Try a little hiking, ATV or horseback riding on your visit.

We at the Lodge often go to Fish Lake. It is close by, lots of fun, and beautifully scenic. If you need help getting there, want the help of a guided fishing company, or have any other questions, just ask us at the front desk.
