Many people claim that Utah has the best whitewater rafting rivers in the country. We at the Lodge at Red River Ranch agree. Whatever type of water you like, relaxing or heart pounding, you’ll find it in Utah. Early autumn is a great time to experience Southern Utah’s rafting hotspots. The heat has lost its edge, and the crowds are thinner. Here are some of our favorite rivers to raft. We hope you check them out.

Cataract Canyon – this is our number one choice for whitewater rafting in Utah. The Green and the Colorado Rivers merge and race away south, through Canyonlands National Park. There are four or five major sections of rapids on the course that should satisfy any whitewater enthusiast. Launch at Moab and exit at the Hite Marina.

Stillwater Canyon – This is also part of Canyonlands National Park, a little further upstream from Cataract Canyon. Slow and easy, this watercourse is perfect for families with children. It is a great way to introduce the kids to rafting. Launch at Mineral Bottom and exit at The Confluence.

San Juan River – This is a great river for multi-day rafting trips. The San Juan runs through the southeastern corner of Utah, cutting into the landscape. We recommend taking time to get out and hike as you float downstream. We love this river for its variety. You get rapids, but you also get to enjoy smooth rafting. There are several launch points and exits to choose from, depending on the length of your trip.

We at the Lodge at Red River Ranch want you to have the best rafting experience you can. Ask us about guided trips, local wisdom, itinerary planning, or anything else you need help with. And have fun shooting the rapids.
