Brian Head vs. Eagle’s Point
Posted in: Outdoor adventures on December 10, 2011.
In our blog we’ve mentioned Brian Head ski resort several times. We love going each season and spending some time on the mountain. It’s a great resort. Recently, however, another resort has opened in Beaver. And it’s vying for dominance with Brian Head. It’s called Eagle’s Point. We at the Lodge at Red River Ranch thought we should compare the two resorts – Brian Head and Eagle Point – to see if we can help you decide which is the best ski resort in Southern Utah for you.
Location – It’s something of a tie here. If you’re coming from Salt Lake, Eagle’s Point is closer to you. If you are coming from Las Vegas, then Brian Head is the shorter drive. Each has a fairly small base town – Beaver and Cedar City, respectively – but Beaver the smaller of the two. Which means fewer amenities in town.
Price – Eagle’s Point charges $45 for a weekday/non-holiday day pass. Brian Head’s standard non-holiday fee is $49. Eagle’s Point offers a season pass for $489; Brian Head’s comparable pass costs $569.
Trails – This is the real determining factor – how good are the runs? Here are the stats. Eagle’s point contains 40 ski and snowboard runs, with 45% classified as advanced/expert. They also have a terrain park two tubing hills. Check out the trail map here. Brain Head has 65 ski and snowboard runs, with 30% in the advanced/expert category. In addition, Brian Head has a six-lane tubing park complete with lift service. They also have a two terrain parks. You can check their trail map here.
Really, both resorts are pretty good. We at the Lodge think that if you are going to be doing a lot of skiing in Southern Utah –and who wouldn’t want to – you should try both. Information can be helpful, but some things need to be based on personal experience. Have fun, and we’ll see you on the mountain.
