Although many people don’t know it, winter in Southern Utah can be just as fun as summer. We at the Lodge at Red River Ranch love exploring the Great Outdoors during all seasons. Here’s a list of some of the reasons why you should get outside during the winter and come play in Southern Utah.

The most obvious reason is the warmer weather. The city of Saint George and Zion National Park are much warmer during the winter. Snowfall occurs at higher elevations, but most of the time the temperature is mild. Hiking, rock climbing, and backcountry exploration can still be done here during the winter months.

Southern Utah also has a much cleaner air quality, which is a welcome change for anyone in a big city.

Visiting Southern Utah’s national parks during the winter has several advantages. There are very few crowds in the off-season; this is perfect if you’re seeking solitude in nature. The snow that falls in the higher elevation parks, such as Bryce Canyon, contrasts beautifully with the red rock. This is something that few people get to experience first-hand.

Snowshoeing is a popular sport in the national forests, as is snowmobiling. In fact, the Paiute ATV Trail, a two hundred mile loop in central Utah, is dedicated to snowmobiling in the winter. There are also plenty of lakes where you can ice fish.

So, Southern Utah in winter offers you a chance to bask in sun, play in the snow, explore the national parks and breathe easy. We at the Lodge at Red River Ranch hope you take the chance to come check out Southern Utah this winter.
