The 2015 Utah Hunting Season

The 2015 Utah Hunting Season

Posted in: Outdoor adventures, Wildlife on September 6, 2015.

The 2015 hunting season has arrived. Here is some info for anyone coming to Southern Utah this season.

Every year the state of Utah sells a certain amount of species-specific hunting permits. The most common hunts in Southern Utah are for deer and elk. Permits for antelope, bison, bighorn sheep, and moose can also be obtained. A limited amount of once-in-a-lifetime and predatory animal permits are also awarded to a lucky few.

The highlands of Southern Utah are popular with both local residents and visitors in the hunting season. Many claim that the eastern slopes of Boulder Mountain are the best place to find whitetail deer. We also suggest Thousand Lakes Mountain in the north, especially if you’re after elk. If you’re hunting for pronghorns or antelope try the plateaus near Loa, Utah. And, if you’re lucky enough to have a Buffalo permit, you will be spending a lot of time in the Henry Mountain Range.

Of course, there are different ways to hunt, depending on your preferences. The Bow hunt usually takes place early in the hunting season, and the general rifle hunt happens sometime in late September or early October.

Because information about various hunting schedules can change, we suggest you visit the Utah Division of Wildlife website, wildlife.utah.gov/dwr/. Maps and hunting area boundary information is also available here.

For those interested in guided hunting tours, we are able to suggest highly qualified guides.

Whatever, wherever, and however you choose to hunt, we hope you’ll have a great time exploring the forests of Southern Utah.
