Arches National Park

Arches National Park

We at the Lodge at Red River Ranch love our national parks. Since Arches National Park has come to represent all of Utah, we thought we’d do a write up of the best things to do and see in Arches. Hopefully, this will make you want to check out the park.

The first, of course, must be Delicate Arch. It is, quite possibly, the most famous arch in the world, and is the first image usually associated with Utah. The trail to Delicate Arch is roughly one and a half miles, one-way. The route is classified as moderately strenuous. The trailhead begins at the Wolfe Ranch parking lot.

Double Arch is a beautiful natural wonder located just a quarter mile from the trailhead. It has been used as an on-location site for several films, most famously Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. This easy hike should not be missed.

Balancing Rock is one of the most popular sites in the park to visit. As the name suggests, it is a column with a huge boulder balanced on top. It is can been seen from the main road, but we at the Lodge recommend that you hike the short loop trail that will lead you directly under it.

The Devil’s Garden is a strenuous seven-mile trail. Nearly a dozen arches and interesting geological features are presented to the hiker, including Tunnel Arch, Pine Tree Arch, Landscape Arch, Partition Arch, Navajo Arch, Double O Arch, Dark Angel monolith, Private Arch and Fin Canyon. This is perhaps the best trail to hike for a brief overview of the park. The trailhead is located at the end of the main road.

There are nearly 2,000 arches and bridges in Arches National Park, but these are the most popular and most accessible. We at the Lodge at Red River Ranch encourage you to check out Arches. It is, after all, the showcase for the state.
